Year 10 science

Year 10 students are working towards their Open Award in Science at Level 1 or 2. Today they completed a workshop on hormones and tested urine samples (fake ones!) for different substances.
We learned some sickly facts too including:

1 - Did you know that way back in history, before glucose testing was used to diagnose diabetes, doctors would put urine on the pavement to test for the condition. If ants came and sipped at the urine puddle they knew the person had diabetes.
2 - If it was Winter and no ants were around then the doctor had a little taste of the urine. Urine from a diabetic tastes sweet.
